DENVER (KDVR) — Voting centers and drop boxes opened in Colorado on Monday, with thousands of people already casting their votes both in Denver and in cities across the state.

Voter turnout so far has been lower than in the general election in 2020, with 637,597 ballots cast in Colorado as of Wednesday.

By this time in 2020, a little over 1.26 million ballots had been returned. This is about double the number returned so far in 2024.

There were slightly fewer registered voters in the state in 2020, approximately 4.1 million versus 4.5 million in 2024, according to Secretary of State data.

This would mean that around 30% of registered voters in Colorado had already voted as of this time in 2020, compared to the 14% so far in 2024.

About 64% of all votes cast so far have been from people 55 and older and 46% being 65 and older. This leaves about 36% of ballots that have been from people between 18 and 55.

In Denver, the second-most populated county in the state behind El Paso County, 52,198 ballots, have been returned. Jefferson County residents have returned the most ballots so far, at 80,441.

Around 630,000 of the ballots returned were mail-in ballots, with 5,800 people casting votes in person.
