DENVER (KDVR) — Denver saw a record-breaking number of e-bike and e-scooter trips this summer, according to the city's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure, with 5.6 million trips completed so far in 2024. The Mile High City also has the most highly utilized e-scooter program in the nation.
The highest single-day ridership came on June 15 of this year, when there were 39,868 rides. This coincides with the day Zach Bryan performed at Mile High Stadium and Denver's Juneteenth Music Festival was held; there was also a Rockies game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Coors Field.
September had the highest number of rides in a single month, with 795,823 in total, which is around 25,000 a day.
The city estimated that it will reach 6 million rides for all of 2024, which it said would be the equivalent of replacing 2 million car trips.
The program was originally started in 2021 and eventually replaced the previous dockless mobility vehicle pilot program.
There were just over 3.8 million rides in the first year of the program. If Denver achieves the goal of 6 million rides in 2024, it would represent a 57% increase in ridership in the three years since the program first launched.
Currently, Denver partners with Lyft and Lime for their e-bike and e-scooter programs.
These agreements will expire in 2026, so the city is launching a survey to get feedback from both riders and non-riders to help inform the process going forward.
The survey, which takes around five minutes to complete, asks about riding habits and provides a place for people to give suggestions on how to improve the service.
