Avalanche prospect, ex-DU standout Sean Behrens will miss 2024-25 season with knee injury

Denver Post

Sean Behrens, one of the Colorado Avalanche’s top prospects, will miss the 2024-25 season after sustaining a knee injury over the weekend.

Behrens, who signed with the Avs in April after winning two national championships at the University of Denver, was practicing Saturday with the Colorado Eagles when the injury occurred. The 21-year-old defenseman was a second-round pick in the 2021 NHL draft.

He was the NCHC defensive defenseman of the year as a junior in 2023-24, helping the Pios to a second national title in three seasons. Behrens signed a three-year, entry-level contract April 19 with the Avs and then played two games — one in the regular season and one in the Calder Cup playoffs — for the Eagles last season.

Behrens was slated to be a key piece of the Eagles’ defense corps this season. He is considered the Avalanche’s third- or fourth-best prospect, behind Calum Ritchie and Mikhail Gulyayev, by most media members who focus on prospects and young players.
