DENVER (KDVR) — A Paralympian from Lakewood traveled to Paris to compete in the 2024 Paralympics. On her return trip, she might have felt her luggage become a bit heavier. Hopefully, she is a good packer because she had to make some extra space for an Olympic medal on her journey home.

Beatriz Hatz has forged a successful career in track and field and was named the 2018 U.S. Paralympics Track & Field High School Female Athlete of the Year.

Her success earned her a call-up to represent her country in the 2024 Paralympics in Paris. This was an opportunity she was not afraid to capitalize on.

Starring in her second Paralympics, Hatz was able to win the bronze medal in the long jump.

In honor of her outstanding accomplishment and to showcase her hometown pride, Hatz will be signing and presenting a jersey to the city on Monday, Oct. 28. The jersey will be given to Mayor Wendi Strom who will display the jersey in the Lakewood Civic Center.

To return the honor to Hatz, the Lakewood City Council will honor Hatz with the proclamation that Oct. 28 will be Beatriz Hatz Appreciation Day.
