DENVER (KDVR) — A flight to the Denver International Airport didn't go as planned when a crustacean was found aboard the plane once it landed in the city.

The Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance said a Halloween crab was found in the main cabin of a flight after it left Costa Rica and landed at DIA. The zoo said nobody really knows how the crab made it on the flight, but presumably, a passenger brought it aboard.

Here's a look at the creature, also known as the moon crab:

After traveling to a different country, the crab was able to stay in the Mile High City with a new home at the Denver Zoo.

The zoo said it will be in the Animal Ambassador demonstrations at the Gates Amphitheatre through October, then, it will have a permanent home in Tropical Discovery.

Aside from crabs, DIA has found several other odd items at the airport over the years. In late July, the lost and found had a box of softballs, bicycles, guitars, pet carriers and even a pot of clay labeled “keepsake hands.”

The Transportation Security Administration has also intercepted over 100 firearms this year.

While a crab is certainly a unique carry-on, there are laws and regulations when it comes to bringing wildlife aboard. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said bringing species to a different country involves import restrictions, prohibitions, permits and sometimes certificate requirements.
