Denver Accepting Required Massage Business License Applications, Due July 1

The Denver Department of Excise and Licenses has launched the online application for massage business licensing.

This license will be required starting July 1 for most massage businesses. The newly required license was signed into law by Mayor Michael Hancock in July 2021 to give the Denver Police Department an additional tool to root out human trafficking at illicit massage businesses, the department stated.

Massage businesses can get more information
and apply for the license at
bit.ly/3MkXKyx.

The license must be renewed yearly, and new license applications require an inspection by the Denver Department of Excise and Licenses, Community Planning and Development, and Denver Fire Department. Denver Police might also conduct compliance inspections if human trafficking complaints are received.

There is an initial application fee of $500 and a yearly licensing fee of $250 to cover city compliance inspections and license administration. A massage business is any place of business where any massage is practiced or administered in exchange for remuneration.

The Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies requires individual licensing for massage therapists, but there is no state licensing requirement for businesses where massage therapy is practiced.

Celebrating Black Pride

Pride, Colorado’s celebration of its Black LGBTQIA+ community, is back this year with a more expansive and inclusive series of festivities, according to organizers.

From June 15-26, the lineup of celebrations range from a “Queer Cookout” for all the family, to a performance featuring an all Black cast that includes Coloradoan drag entertainers and special guests from “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

Also returning this year is the Strange Fruit of Black Excellence Gala at which YouthSeen presents its Asante Award that applauds a community member who consistently works to create conversations
around diversity and empowerment.

An additional accolade presented at the gala includes the Ally & Accomplice Award for someone who supports the causes of the LGBTQIA+ community. Furthermore, Black Pride Colorado is requesting donations to help the organization’s mission in supporting queer, trans, and nonbinary people of color and create more community engagement programs.
